Undergraduate Students Going to Metz
Fall 2010 and Spring 2011
All students need a passport, valid for three months beyond their return date to the United States. A long stay visa is mandatory for all non-European students planning to participate in the Georgia Tech Lorraine Fall or Spring Programs in France.
Step 1: Each student must register with Campus France and get a confirmation email that will allow him/her to apply for a visa. Please follow the Campus France Guidelines to complete your Campus France registration
Step 2: Each student must apply for a visa at the French Consulate.
Step 3: Each student must apply for a Carte de Sejour (Residence Permit), by including their OFII Form/Residence Permit Application Form in the visa packet. The carte de sejour provides the following benefits:
Required Documents
The following documents must be included in the visa application packet:
- The Campus France Confirmation Email
- A Valid Passport
- One Long Stay Visa Application Form. Students may use the instructions to complete the application form.
- Two copies of the passport page containing the student's Personal Information and Passport Number
- Copies of all Immigration Documents (e.g. green card, signed I-20, J-1, or other US visa, etc.)
- Two passport-type photos (see example below)

- Proof of financial support (scholarship document, financial aid or recent bank statement showing at least $2,400 in available funds). Parents' bank statements may be submitted but must be accompanied by a signed letter from the parents, stating their relationship to the student and explaining that these funds will be made available to their son/daughter as needed. Account numbers may be blackened out, but the statement must be recent and have the student or the parent's name on it.
- Copies of the student's drivers license and student ID card
- Insurance letter from T.W. Lord (insurance dates must be identical to the student's plane ticket dates)
- Letter from the Program Director (Catherine Bass)
- Travel reservation/electronic plane ticket or paper plane ticket
- Visa Application Processing Fee (cash payment recommended) The $60 already paid to Campus France will be deducted from the current long stay visa fee (check the French Consulate web site for up-to-date rates of standard visa fees).
- A prepaid FEDEX or UPS envelope, with the student's name and address to which the passport must be mailed back, if you do not want to go get your passport back in person
- The OFII Form/Residence Permit Application Form
