Georgia Tech Lorraine Scholarship Challenge

A new tradition of philanthropy among Georgia Tech-Lorraine (GTL) alumni and supporters is heralded by the establishment of the Georgia Tech-Lorraine Scholarship Challenge Program. This initiative, established by the President of Georgia Tech, is designed to inspire charitable gifts by alumni for the support o GTL, and to accelerate the development of GTL’s alumni support system. It is this very system that propelled Georgia Tech’s Atlanta campus to its current level of excellence and achievement

Student participation in the GTL programs has grown steadily over the past two decades and GTL continues to play a significant role in realizing Georgia Tech’s strategic vision of educating the global leader of the 21st century. To date, more than 2,500 Georgia Tech students have participated in the GTL program. As the program has grown, so has the body of outstanding students on both continents who desire this experience but cannot afford it. The Georgia Tech-Lorraine Scholarship Challenge will enable these students to come to GTL, and propel the level of student involvement to its highest potential. The program is spearheaded by a team of alumni volunteers, including Aurelien Cottet, MSAE ’03 and John VanderWeide, MSME ’06 in France, and, Mel Johnson, ECE ’91, MSEE ’92 and Spencer Patterson, MSME ’04 in the U.S. This team of alumni are working with Marta Garcia, Associate Vice Provost for Development and John Fritch, Director of Corporate Relations and Alumni Afairs at Georgia Tech-Lorraine.
The Scholarship Challenge Program is the first phase of a five year effort to raise $250,000 in scholarships and a total of $1 million by Georgia Tech-Lorraine’s silver anniversary—in 2015. Alumni can make structured donations over a period of time, up to five years from the date their pledge is made
