Travel Information & Local Transportation

About Metz
Building on its rich history and driven by the universities, companies and research laboratories of the Metz Technopole, Metz has become a European center for high technology. Dating back to the Roman Empire, Metz has been a hub in Central Europe. Key north-south and east-west transportation routes have always crossed in Metz, which continues to be an important cultural, commercial, and administrative center. As a result, the City of Metz and the surrounding Lorraine region feature a rich diversity of architectures and historic sites left behind by the many cultures which have ruled the region over the past 20 centuries.

Metz: A New York Times Must See
Today, Metz, a city recently named by the New York Times as one the top 44 places to see in the world, is a thriving arts community as evidenced by the new Pompidou Center.
